Michelle Morrison, Business Manager for the Lake Quinault School District, has been recognized by the Office of Washington State Auditor Pat McCarthy with a Stewardship award for her outstanding work in promoting government accountability and transparency. The Auditor’s Office commended the District as a model of effective and efficient public service, highlighting its strong internal controls and culture of accountability.
The recognition comes following the District’s recent federal and financial statement audits. While Lake Quinault typically receives an annual assessment audit due to its small size, the receipt of federal funding triggered a more rigorous federal single audit and a full financial statement audit—the first federal audit the District has undergone in 14 years. Despite the increased scrutiny, the District passed with flying colors, demonstrating exemplary preparedness and diligence.
Michelle Morrison played a central role in this success. Her collaborative leadership with Superintendent Keith Samplawski and the Board of Directors was instrumental in implementing clear segregation of duties and streamlining processes. These efforts ensure the District maximizes the use of public funds while safeguarding resources.
“Michelle responded to all audit requests timely and thoroughly,” the Auditor’s Office noted. “Her attention to detail was outstanding, and all financial disclosures were presented accurately, complete with supporting documentation.”
The Office emphasized that Morrison and the Lake Quinault School District staff have shown a clear commitment to being good stewards of public funds and to remaining accountable to the community. This dedication not only strengthens internal operations but also builds public trust in local government.
Through their proactive approach and willingness to improve, the Lake Quinault School District has demonstrated the value of strong financial oversight and has fostered a positive and professional relationship with the State Auditor’s Office.
